Global Warming

Main cause of the current global warming is the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is when Sun's heat is trap inside Earth's atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is caused by man's activities that emit greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. This makes Earth's temperature rises. The global warming effects the environment such as melting polar ice, rising of sea level and extinction of animals. To reduce global warming is to reduce deforestation, reduce waste, reduce use of cars and save electrical energy.

Symbiosis Poster

Symbiosis Poster

My group poster is about symbiosis. We know that symbiosis is a close relationship between animals. There are 3 types of symbiosis. The first type is commensalism. This is a relationship between two organisms when one receives a benefit or benefits from the other and the other is not affected by it. Examples of commensalism are clown fish and sea anemone and buffalo and acridotheres.









The second type of symbiosis is mutualism. It is a when both animals get benefits. The examples are bee and flower and oxpeckers and zebras.


The last type of symbiosis is parasitism. Parasitism is where one species, the parasite, benefits while of the other, the host is harmed.

My favorite topics in add science is the prey and predator topics. Because I like learning about animals. I like to know how do they live in nature, how do they hunt to stay alive. I think these information is very interesting to me! For my least favorite activity is the fish lab. Because I will be sad when the fish and the shrimp died.

  • Polar bear
    • White thick fur for camouflage.
    • Thick layer of blubber to keep them warm.
    • Strong legs to swim and walk in ice.
  • Seal
    • Streamlined body shape to swim quickly.
    • They shut their nostrils when they are under water to hold their breath underwater.
    • Flippers help to swim.

Fish and Shrimp experiment

Fish and Shrimp experiment

In the lab we prepare our bottle for our fish and shrimp.Then we add water into the two bottles. The test if the water in the bottle is good enough for the fish or not by adding drops of bromothymol blue in to the water. After that we watch if the water change color. The water will change to yellow if there are carbon dioxide in the water. We put the plant in to the bottle because the plants produce oxygen for the fish through photosynthesis. Sometimes the fish and the shrimp also eat the plant too.  

Hypothesis:
     I think that the shrimp will live longer that the fish. I think the fish might be dead. Because my fish seem to be ill and it did not adapt to its new habitat yet. The shrimp seem to be active and healthy.

Observation:
Thursday 30th June,    
 My fish live in the bottle normally. It adapt to the new habitat well. The shrimp also live normally in the bottle. But on Friday afternoon it did not move as much as On Thursday.  I think it is going to molt. Both of them did not eat the plant in the water much. I did not take them home. I hope they will be healthier on Monday.



On Monday 4th July, 2016
I take a look on my fish and shrimp in the morning. My fish and shrimp are still okay. But in the afternoon I take a look at my fish and it was dead already. It was dead at about 12 o'clock. I think the fish died because the fish did not eat the plant. My shrimp is not dead yet and it adapt to its new habitat well.
The group that the fish live, their water is clean and they open their bottle cap all the time. If I can do it again I will clean the water more properly and open the bottle cap. 



Thursday 14th July.

I think that the fish died because the oxygen in the water and the plants turn black too. But in the shrimp bottle the plants is green and I open the bottle cap to let the oxygen come into the bottle. I think the other thing that could kill the fish is the fungi. Because the other group plants are green. I also find that the place that you put your bottle will affect the living of the fish and shrimp too. Because the bottle that are placed outside the lab by the window have 2°C different temperature.
